To save your skin from becoming dull, lacklustre and dehydrated during the autumn months, up your exfoliation to twice a week. Exfoliating regularly, helps to increase cellular regeneration and removes dead skin cells that can hinder the absorption of any moisturisers or serums. When selecting a scrub, we recommend choosing one with natural exfoliants such as Sugar, or Apricot seed powder. Many high street scrubs contain plastic micro beads that are harmful to wildlife when washed down the drain. Our organic Sugar Scrub for the body and Fruit Scrub Exfoliator for the face and neck, are packed with deeply nourishing Shea Butter and use only natural exfoliants to keep skin hydrated, refreshed and radiant all year round.

Inject more moisture

Having a super-moisturising facial product in your arsenal really is one of the most important autumn beauty tips. Make sure you avoid any cosmetics that contain drying alcohol, as this synthetic nasty strips your skin of moisture and can cause it to become dry and itchy. If you’ve never tried a facial oil before, now is the perfect time to invest. With a beautifully light, silky texture and an intense nourishing feel, facial oils are the ideal products to give your skin the edge against the elements. Our Anti Ageing Facial Oil and Age Defy+ Cell Enrich Facial Oil are both full of powerful skin-rejuvenating plant oils including organic Rosehip, Evening Primrose and Sweet Almond. Use your facial oil twice daily for an amazing, non-greasy moisture treat. Or if you need to calm your tired skin, try a pampering face mask to nourish, plump and soften. Our organic Vita Min Mask is perfect for sensitive skin, has powerful anti-ageing plant actives and is really easy to use. Simply apply a walnut-sized amount to your face, leave for 20-30 minutes before removing the excess with a soft tissue - no need to peel or rinse, this mask gives you an amazing spa feeling in your own home.

Liven up your lips

It can be tempting to reach for a tub of petroleum jelly to protect chapped lips from the chill; however that innocent looking tub may not be as helpful as you think. As a by-product from the oil industry, petroleum jelly is not compatible with our skin. Slathering it on your lips is essentially wrapping your skin in cling film, preventing it from breathing and potentially making the area even more sore and chapped. Instead, reach for a lip product that contains natural waxes, butters and oils, which as well as forming a protective layer, nourishes and repairs damaged skin. Use our new Enrich & Enhance Lip Primer by itself or as a colour anchoring and enhancing base under any lipstick; or try our Soft Lips Scent Free Lip Balm which also contains SPF8, making it the new handbag essential.

Help is at hand

Probably the most common cold skin quandary is dry, sore hands. This isn’t really surprising as our hands are often exposed to the elements, whether it's fumbling for keys or tapping away on our phones, we often neglect them when it comes to skin care. Because the skin on your hands doesn't produce as much natural oil as the rest of your body, this area is much more prone to dryness, especially in colder weather. It’s time to give back to our hardest working body parts! Pamper your hands with a deeply hydrating rescue remedy like our Help at Hand cream, enriched with Squalane from olive, Jojoba oil and soothing Marshmallow root, your hands won’t know how to thank you.

Get beautiful skin from within

organic supplement
You can make a big difference to your skin by making some small changes to your diet. For example, many of us still don’t drink enough water and this can cause skin to become dry and flaky. Drinking 2 litres of filtered water per day (8 x 250ml glasses) is an essential way to protect your skin from succumbing to autumn dullness. If you aren’t already taking an organic food supplement, autumn is a great time to begin. Our superfood Green Beauty supplement not only gives your immune system a much needed pre-winter boost, it also works wonders to hydrate, smooth and protect your skin. Green Beauty contains one of the most powerful known antioxidants called Astaxanthin. This ingredient is so remarkable as it is able to enter and protect every cell in the body, effectively giving you a full-body hug!

I am excited to be celebrating the change of seasons and our very first blog post. Yes a long time coming, since we launched 18 months ago and what a ride so far, full of amazing highs scattered with some pretty low lows. Along with juggling my 4 and 7 year old children’s needs, oh and yes hubby, dog and myself I can finally say I am finding my stride and loving it!
So let’s jump into autumn with 5 easy skin health tips as we transition into the cooler months.
As the days grow shorter, the temperatures drop, and the air becomes drier, your skin may lose precious moisture. Autumn is a time of transition and is a great time to help correct any summer damage that may have occurred and prepare your skin for the coming winter.
Sun and saltwater may have taken a toll on your skin throughout the summer, so autumn is the time to exfoliate and moisturise.
Follow these autumn skin health tips for healthy radiant skin:
Make the switch to a richer cream. As the air becomes drier your skin will be in need of greater nourishment and protection. Consider switching your moisturiser to a richer version. That dry, tight feeling may be caused by a moisturiser that’s not rich enough for your skin’s needs during these drier, colder months. Our Rejuvenate face cream is the perfect fit.
Stay well hydrated:  We’ve all heard it before, drink more water! The truth is if you don’t replenish yourself with water you will become dehydrated both inside and outside. Drinking water first thing in the morning is a great way to wake up and get a head start on hydration. And don’t forget juicy fruits and vegetables and herbal teas to bump up your hydration.
Exfoliate with dry skin brushing:  Start the new season off with a full-body session of dry skin brushing. Just two minutes of dry brushing increases circulation, stimulates the lymphatic system (which moves toxins out of the body) and removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Brush the entire body from the tips of your extremities towards your heart before you jump in the shower.
Protect your lips. Start moisturising now to prevent dry, cracked lips this season. Use soothe lip balm to provide instant relief, moisture and protection. Cocoa seed and shea butter soothe and condition while tamanu delivers skin healing and protective properties against the elements.
Skins superfood:  Nutrition plays such an important role in your skin health. At this time of year my top picks are avocados which are rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants and do wonders for your complexion. The nutrient dense chia seed for their Omega fatty acid content (sprinkle over salads, add to smoothies) and lemons, freshly squeezed in a glass of warm water first thing in the morning acts as a daily detox. Chock full of Vitamin C and immune boosting bioflavonoids they are must have pantry stable.

5 Must-Try Tips for Fall Makeup, Nails, and Hair

Oh, how I love fall. I love the cooler, crisper weather in much of the country. I love it when bare legs are replaced by tights and boots. Most of all, as a former celebrity makeup artist, I really love fall makeup. And after months of melted mascara and slippery eyeliner—I am so ready for fall beauty.
While autumn tends to bring heavy makeup and smokey eyes, this year things feel slightly different. Beauty trends are more relaxed and embrace elements from different decades—from relaxed hair and braids reminiscent of the ’70s, to intricate nail art that brings to mind the ’80s, to natural makeup that reminds me of the ’90s, there are lots of options and beauty trends to try. My favorite five in no particular order are:
1. Nearly Nude: Since you’ve probably picked up some sun over the past few months, you’ve still got time to flaunt your (rapidly fading) glow. This is a very good thing, especially during those mornings when you may have overslept and need a quick beauty routine. Prep skin by dabbing cover up on any blemishes or uneven skin tone. If you’re feeling very brazen, you can skip makeup entirely and use a tinted moisturizer or CC cream (color control cream, the next generation of BB creams or beauty balms). One of the more fun entries into this popular field is Kamou Pigment Matching Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15, which corrects skin tone and refracts light away from damaged areas. The brand has an interesting pedigree in having been developed to mimic the techniques that soldiers in combat use to camouflage themselves. ($48 on kallinibeauty.com). For the drugstore equivalent, try Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Tone-Correcting UV Moisturizer, which is about $21.99 at drugstores nationwide.
2. Eyes on You: Oh joy! The best fall beauty isn’t only focusing on the intense smokey eyed look so popular in years past. For the best eye looks for autumn, you can either go all out and layer on colored and highly pigmented tones like purples or electric blue, add an edgy look with eyeliner, or opt for softer more natural and neutral looks. Michelle Phan, who’s known for her wildly popular YouTube beauty tutorials offers this tip for achieving the perfect cat’s eye look:
A cat’s eye is fairly easy to master. You just need to understand your eye shape. When you draw on your liner, extend the wing out just beyond the edge of your eye. For a more dramatic look, try flicking the line slightly upward.
If the thought of liquid eyeliner gives you a case of the jitters, you can achieve a similar effect with Clarins Long-Lasting Eye Pencil in Intense Black ($25 at department stores). Phan has a new line of beauty products out, Em Cosmetics; the Shade Play eye color palette in Sahara Nudes contains six highly pigmented shades that can be combined for mostly bare to neutral with impact ($38, emcosmetics.com)
3. Ruby Lips: I’ve always been a huge fan of retro-inspired glamor. In fact my first book, Hello Gorgeous! Beauty Products in America ’40s-’60s(which will be reissued in the coming months) was all about the allure of vintage beauty advertising. If you embrace only one trend this fall, you might want to try a deep red lip. Bear in mind though, that if you have sun damage, smoke (don’t!), or have lines around your lips, the color might bleed. It’s always a great idea to prep lips first, so keep them in prime shape with regular lip balm use. Lypsyl Intense Protection is made with Swedish beeswax, costs less than $3 at drugstores nationwide and provides long lasting softening. One of my all time favorite products isGuerlain Kiss Kiss Liplift. I wish I had words enough to describe the near magical quality of this product which plumps up lips without that minty sting and keeps lipstick exactly where you’ve applied it. ($33 at sephora.com).
4. Graffiti Nails: I must confess a shameful secret. When I was in high school I would spend hours each night figuring out my outfit for the next day and then painting and polishing my nails to match. Sometimes, I still do. Nail art is still wildly popular for fall and instead of spending hours trying to figure out a design, you can use a contrasting nail color to paint on a squiggle or line on just one nail for a bit of impact and lots of fun. One of my favorite colors this season is Essie’s The Lace is On, a pearlized magenta shade. ($8 at department and drugstores). Protect your artistic endeavors with Londontown Kur Protective Top Coat. At $25 (londontownusa.com) it isn’t a steal, but it protected my nails perfectly after a week of intense keyboard activity.
5. Braided Hair: If there’s one trend this season that truly saddens me, it’s braided hair. As someone with a pixie haircut, I’m pained to be missing out on one of the more versatile hair trends. Braids are everywhere this season and work in a multitude of styles: You can wear a long plait to work, weave loads of tiny braids into your usual hairstyle, or try braided chignons and up-dos. Or you might opt for French, mermaid, or herringbone braids. And even cornrows work. There is no wrong way to wear braids this season.
A final thought, plus a bonus tip: Just because a beauty tip or trend sounds thrilling, does not mean it will work well for you. For instance darker complexions will be able to be more playful with intensely pigmented tones, while lighter skins will have to be more vigilant about blending. And as mentioned, those of us with really short hair can’t play with braids at all. If you like the idea of a trend, try not to mix and match all at once, but rather introduce one new look or product at a time and see the reactions that you get from others and the way that you feel in your slightly updated face. Then again, if you’re so excited by all the fall beauty tips that you can’t wait to try each individually, Bobbi Brown’s new Rich Chocolate Collection (bobbibrowncosmetics.com) covers nearly all the seasons beauty trends. There’s a seven color eye palette that takes you from base to lid to liner ($52) and new limited edition lip color in Berry and sheer lipgloss in Chocolate Raspberry ($25 and $24 respectively).

When we describe lips, it's usually in terms like big, small, thick, or thin. But our pouts are much more complex than that. In fact, the intricacies of our lip prints are so telling that you can actually have them read like you would your palm.
What will a certified "lipologist" tell you? Everything from you're a good listener to you're stressing over things you can't control. Here, lip expert Anna Snodgrass breaks down the common ways to interpret lip prints, plus five example readings. Slather on some lipstick, kiss a piece of paper, and read on.

What Your Lip Shape Says About You

Triangle: You help others to succeed. You recognize other's skills and abilities, helping them to recognize these skills and abilities in themselves.
Rectangle: This is a "salt of the earth" person who is the go-to person for advice, money, or muscle. You're what Lipologists call the "godmother" or "godfather" of your community.
Diamond: Like the triangle, a person with a diamond print helps others to succeed, but you're also successful yourself, give back to your community, and are a good mentor.

What Your Lip Size Says About You

Small: You're detail oriented. If someone wants a job done accurately, carefully, and with precision, you're the go-to person. You also like to have everything in front of you, figuring it all out and getting it out the door. On time and under budget if possible.
Medium: You're the "busy juggler" in that you keep a balance between work, home, and play. You have a lot of balls in the air.
Large: You're a go-big-or-go-home person meaning that if you can't do it right, you don't want to do it at all. You like to do things in a big way.

What Your Lip Fullness Says About You

If your lip print is full...
Upper Lip: A good listener.
Bottom Lip: Generous and expressive.
If your lip print is thin...
Upper Lip: Picky.
Bottom Lip: Either good with numbers or careful with money.

What Your Lip Lines Say About You

"If lines start from the inside of the upper lip, it means you're stressing about things you don't have control over," explains Snodgrass. "Stress lines that start from the inside of the bottom lip mean that you're stressing about things that you can do something about — and should."
If there are lines coming from the outside to the inside on the top lip, they're known as "spirit lines" and indicate that you're a spiritual person or there's a message coming through in your dreams or intuitions that needs to be listened to, she adds. If the lines are outside-in from the bottom, your body is asking you to get outside and be more active.

Lip Print #1

"This print is in the shape of a triangle, which means that this is a person who helps others to succeed. The upper lip print is full indicating that this person is a good listener. People probably tell this person their life story or cry on their shoulder a lot.The lower lip print is thinner, indicating that they may be more budget conscious.
This person can be stubborn and doesn't like to change their mind once they make their decision. The V-shape in the upper lip print indicates someone who has a long fuse and big-boom-at-the-end kind of temper. It takes them a long time and it's not good to poke the bear. This print also has a lip print within a lip print, which means they show bursts of energy when needed and can usually be counted on. Lastly, this person has spirit lines, indicating a spiritual side as well as 'mother nature lines' indicating a need to go outside."

Lip Print #2

"This person has a diamond lip print. Like the triangle, a person with a diamond print helps others and is also very successful. There's a strong 'hug pucker,' so this person could use a hug, but this type of hug pucker implies they may not just hug anyone — they are privately passionate, behind closed doors. This one also has a 'gourmet lip split' on the middle of the lower lip print. It indicates this person loves quality food, but will go with the flow as well, regarding diet.
This person has some stress lines that cut all the way through the print and this indicates they need to take good care of themselves and give themselves some TLC because they're going through a big change. This person looks to be more independent, liking to be given the work to do and getting it done with little oversight."

Lip Print #3

"This print is also a triangle print. They also have a cupid's bow and like to make people happy. The upside is that they're good negotiators because they know what folks want. The downside is that they may not take as good care of themselves as they take of others. This is also a 'cheerleader' print. This person has tons of energy and can keep going and going and going until they crash. This person is also open to new experiences and is a 'flexible foodie,' liking quality food but being flexible about it. This person also has information funnels — they like a lot of information and think about it a while before they make a decision."

3 Hair Dryers Worth The Investment

The bad news first: No hair dryer is actually going to make you enjoy the process of drying your hair. The sectioning, the repinning, the eventual shoulder cramp...it all blows (pun shamelessly intended). We could argue about whether or not it's an actually necessary evil, but its general suckage still stands. And if you're going to subject yourself to drying your hair as a semi-regular-to-habitual torture, it's also important to come to terms with the fact that no hair dryer, no matter how technologically savvy it is, will instantly make you better at drying your hair. That's why there are professionals we pay for this kind of thing.
best-blowdryers-1
But, contrary to what many believe, the quality of your hair dryerdoes matter. A worthwhile hot tool can make the difference between hair that's actually manageable and hair that you'd rather shave off and be done with. The two pillars of a good hair dryer are heat and control. Depending on your hair type, you'll want to really take advantage of the different Cool, Warm, and Hot settings, along with the varying air speeds (fine hair does well with cool-to-warm temperature, while curly hair needs high heat at a low air speed). A good hair dryer might set you back $200, but if you take care of it, it'll last at least a decade and will can save you money on spur-of-the-moment appointments at DryBar.
'You need to buy a good quality one,” said Dale Delaporte ofPrema, the Australian salon that just opened their first US location in New York's Lower East Side. And since, no matter what, professionals do it better, we pressed for a recommendation: “TheT3 Featherweight Luxe 2i is easy to use, and nice and lightweight, so it's not going to feel like you just finished a bicep class after blowing out your bangs. It also isn't so powerful that you feel like it might launch itself to space every time you turn it on. The nozzle concentrates the airflow so that it slides right over your hair minimizing frizz,”
Across town in the Meatpacking District, Bumble and bumble's Allen Thomas Wood recommended the Twin Turbo 2600. “We swear by it at Bumble. It is affordable, durable, powerful and gets the job done. I'm partial to its sleek solid black finish and love that it is straightforward without the gimmicks of ceramic coating or ionic technology,” Bonuses that do make it worth the cash: four heat settings, plus a cold shot, an anti-overheating device, and two nozzles.
GHD is an office favorite (you can absolutely suck at blowdrying your own hair and it'll still come out soft and manageable with it), but in case you don't believe us, take L'OrĂ©al Paris Celebrity Stylist Mara Roszak's recommendation: “I love the GHD Professional Hairdryer—the right amount of power and just never fails me. It leaves hair nice and shiny no matter what. And they are prettier to look at than most,” Bathroom aesthetics are not to be ignored here.
